Hawaii Schools '07 - '08
________________________________________________________________________The Pennies for Pearl Harbor Program added eight more participants from Hawaii during the ‘07-‘08 school year. Pennies for Pearl Harbor is a community service program aimed at schools and organizations to learn about the attack on Pearl Harbor and to raise awareness by contributing to the new Museum and Visitor Center effort. The participants are Boy Scout Troop 126 from Kapolei, Roosevelt High School ROTC Program, Honolulu Christian Homeschoolers, and several schools around Oahu. Aliamanu Elementary School, lead by their Student Council, organized a carnival to raise money. This is the third year they have participated in the program. Fifth-grader Ashlyn Chee of Kamehameha Elementary School chose Pennies for Pearl Harbor as her school project. The entire grade level did an extensive study on Pu’uloa (Pearl Harbor). Ashlyn explained its history, plans for new Museum and Visitor Center, and why it needs to be built. Over 200 Schools, service organizations, clubs as well as entire communities across the country have participated in the Pennies for Pearl Harbor Program.
