return to Pennies for Pearl Harbor
Flint Southwestern Academy
________________________________________________________________________

The students of Flint Southwestern Academy embarked on two daunting projects.

They were encouraged by their Social Studies Teacher John C. Davidek who took part in the NEH Teacher’s Workshop in 2007. They wanted to help build the new Museum and Visitor Center for the Arizona Memorial and to pay tribute to Owen Francis Patrick Hammerberg, Flint Michigan’s only WWII Medal of Honor recipient. Although the town is directly affected by the economy, the students were dedicated, spirit, and concern to keep the historic site open, and managed to raise $500 for Pennies for Pearl Harbor. Their next project will be to create the Hammerberg Road Memorial in honor of their first Navy member.
